The Planning Zoning Commission on May 5 approved a preliminary plat and a final plat for the DataBank Red Oak data center complex, to be located east of North State Highway 342 in Red Oak, Texas.
The plats create Lot 1, Block 1; Lot 1, Block 2; Lot 1, Block 3; and Lot 1, Block 4 for the project identified in Abstract No. 1344 and case PAsInPaulSAsInSam25-06. The application was requested by DB Data Center Red Oak LLC. Commission members voted to approve both items during the meeting; commission approval was recorded as “ayes” and the motions carried.
City staff said the data center will be situated on Lot 1, Block 1 and described that parcel as a large tract intended to contain multiple buildings for the data center complex. Staff noted that zoning for the site had already been completed and that the commission’s action on the final plat should be made subject to the City Council’s upcoming consideration of the preliminary plat next week.
Commission discussion briefly addressed a westerly portion of the plat located west of Batchelor Road. Staff said that area remains zoned for single-family residential (RAE) to serve as a buffer between the industrial data center use and existing homes; staff added that the zoning would allow future single-family development if the landowner sold the parcel. No members of the public spoke on this item.
The commission’s approval advances the plats to the recordation and council-review stages, but staff emphasized that the final plat approval by the commission is conditioned on City Council approval of the preliminary plat at its next meeting.
Action details and next steps include submission of the plats for recordation (final plat) and placement of the preliminary plat on the City Council agenda for final municipal approval.
