The Buncombe County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council reviewed two incoming membership applications during its Oct. 16 meeting but postponed any appointment votes after council staff checked membership counts and vacancies.
Council chair George Redmond opened the meeting with a roll call and reminded attendees to complete annual conflict-of-interest forms required for any votes on allocations. Council staff reported two current JCPC vacancies: one for the district attorney (DA) designee and one seat reserved for a young person under age 21. The council had received applications for the positions from “Eliza Jackson” and “Katie Curves” (DA office), and a community-member-at-large application, but members said they could not confirm they had the needed quorum to act at this meeting.
Members discussed logistics for reviewing candidates and agreed to circulate application materials and defer formal votes to a future meeting when quorum could be verified. Staff said they would resend application packets and follow up with members before the next meeting. The chair also reminded members that conflict-of-interest forms must be completed each fiscal year before any allocation or appointment votes.
The council did not take any binding action on the applications at the Oct. 16 meeting; members directed staff to distribute materials and revisit appointments at the next convening.
