Construction updates: Bradley Central science wing awaits FEMA funds; Parkview playground installation being corrected

Drew said work on the Bradley Central baseball field house is active and the project team is "slated to be completed" by Jan. 1, with the front facade finished and interior rough-in in progress. He said the district has completed discretionary permitting steps for the Bradley Central science wing and is awaiting FEMA funding; "we're anticipating a check from FEMA, literally anytime," Drew said. Drew added that the science wing design was being revised to meet storm-shelter requirements tied to the grant.

Parkview playground: Drew described a problem at Parkview where two near-identical playground units had been installed with the taller tower placed on the wrong grade-level side. "The structure that was installed on the K–2 side was a very large swirling slide," Drew said, while the upper-grade side received a lower structure. He said the vendor and general contractor provided drawings that did not include tower heights on plan view; the civil drawings guided installation and led to the mismatch. District staff are working with the vendor and contractor to relocate components and minimize the district's financial exposure. "We're sorting through exactly what happened and how that happened and make sure it never happens again," Drew said.
Board action and follow-up: The board did not take a formal vote on the installation issue but asked staff to pursue corrective steps and provide a cost estimate. Drew said staff expect to deliver numbers for relocation and contingencies as they work with the vendor.
Other projects: Drew said Hopewell phase 1 is progressing with hollow-core panels installed and masonry underway, targeting a summer completion next year. Ocoee interior work is complete and a green space is planned. Parkview playground pads are in and playgrounds are being installed; staff said they will report cost and schedule updates to the board.
Ending: District leaders told trustees they will return with a remediation plan and any recommended change orders or contractor charges related to the playground installation, and will notify the board once the FEMA payment and permit timelines for the science wing are confirmed.
