Supporters said the path fills a longstanding gap: La Costa Avenue is one of the only east‑west routes in parts of north Leucadia without a sidewalk or safe walking corridor. Speakers and council members praised the engineering team for successfully obtaining competitive regional funding and emphasized the project's benefits for pedestrians, students and multimodal connectivity. Council voted to approve the funding authorization without recorded opposition.
