Monrovia staff: 701 S. Myrtle project moving toward Nov. 12 hearing; staff to review SB 79 implications

City planning staff told the Monrovia Planning Commission on Oct. 15 that the 701 South Myrtle Avenue project completed a Development Review Committee advisory review and that staff will send a 20-day public hearing notice; the commission is scheduled to consider the project at its Nov. 12 meeting. Staff said the project’s final environmental impact report has been prepared and is available on the city website.
In a separate update, staff discussed recent state legislation referenced in the meeting as “SB 79.” Staff said the city council issued a letter prior to the commission meeting and that staff would study the bill’s effects on Monrovia. Staff reported that City Council held a special meeting with Assembly Member John Herbidian to discuss the measure; staff attributed to Herbidian the observation that the bill contains provisions that could allow the city to adopt a local alternative plan that would be consistent with SB 9. Staff said they will review the legislation and it may take time before a formal item is brought back to the commission.
Staff characterized the legislative review as complex and said additional time will be needed to determine any required changes to local plans or regulations. No formal action was taken by the commission on these updates.
