During the Board of Commissioners’ public comment period on April 22, Dr. Gregory Sullivan (Ph.D.), president of Environmental Management and System, addressed the board about a proposed 32-pump Costco fuel center near Littleton and raised environmental-justice concerns.
Sullivan stated he had received a follow-up call from a county representative about the proposal and said, in his view, the county had provided a “no comment” on the project but had not addressed environmental impacts on air or water. He told commissioners the project would add pollution near children in nearby schools, daycare facilities and elderly residents in nursing homes, and he called the site a public-health threat.
Sullivan also said the planned fuel center would require 10 fuel-truck deliveries daily to service 32 pumps and provided specific numerical claims during his three-minute public comment, including an assertion that the county and Littleton’s decisions have allowed a saturation of fuel stations in the area. He urged the board to investigate the procedural approvals Littleton used to accommodate Costco’s application.
The board did not respond during the public-comment portion; the chair reminded the public that the county does not answer individual comments during that segment but will take notes and follow up as appropriate. The speaker’s statements were presented as public comment, not as findings by county staff or the board.
