The Arapahoe County Board of County Commissioners on March 11 adopted the county’s updated Infrastructure Design and Construction Standards (IDCS 2024), a technical manual that sets engineering, materials, and construction requirements for public improvements.
Engineering Services Division manager Celia Rothermel presented the update, saying the 2019 manual needed revision to reflect technical changes, post-pandemic cost and supply challenges, and alignment with regional standards such as CDOT and MAGPEG pavement guidance. Staff reorganized several chapters, updated rotary classifications to match the latest transportation master plan, added appendices for traffic and pavement markings, and included checklists intended to simplify implementation for permit applicants and county reviewers.
Rothermel said additional work will continue on multimodal transportation guidance and on aligning design criteria with the county’s water supply study. Commissioners thanked staff for the update and attention to detail.
Commissioner Warren Gully moved to adopt the IDCS 2024 and Commissioner Campbell seconded. The resolution was approved; the board set an effective date in June (month specified in motion; day not specified on the record).
