Arapahoe County commissioners adopt two proclamations and approve seven-item consent agenda

The Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners on April 8 adopted two proclamations and approved a seven-item consent agenda during its business meeting.
The board approved a proclamation designating April 13–19, 2025, as National Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week. Commissioner Baker moved to approve the proclamation; Commissioner Fields seconded the motion. The chair called the voice vote and the proclamation was adopted. The proclamation text cited Arapahoe County Animal Services handling 894 cases in 2024, including 124 animal-welfare calls, 155 animal-bite calls, 204 calls for animals running at large, and returning 40 animals to their homes in 2024.
Brian Weimer, public works and development director, spoke after the proclamation and thanked the board. "The 4 dedicated individuals serve on the front lines of public safety and animal welfare," Weimer said, and highlighted rescuing abused animals, reuniting lost pets, responding to emergencies, and public education as part of their duties.
The board also approved a proclamation establishing April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Commissioner Warren Gully moved to approve the proclamation and Commissioner Fields seconded. The proclamation cited that Arapahoe County Child Protection Services received 13,918 referrals of child abuse and neglect in 2024 and said 4,898 of those referrals required a caseworker response and safety assessment. Jolita Gatton, provider services administrator with Child and Adult Protection Services, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the department and urged community vigilance: "By declaring this month, we are acknowledging the urgent need to stand up for these vulnerable voices," she said.
The consent agenda, containing seven items as presented, was moved by Commissioner Warren Gully and seconded by Commissioner Baker and passed by voice vote. The transcript records the chair asking for abstentions and none were raised; the consent agenda was declared adopted.
During commissioner comments, Commissioner Baker called attention to National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and acknowledged emergency dispatchers and communication specialists who provide 9-1-1 and dispatch services across the county.
