The Reno City Planning Commission on Wednesday recommended that the City Council approve a zoning map amendment to change a roughly 70‑acre parcel near Interstate 580 and South Virginia Street from mixed‑use suburban zoning to Parks, Greenways and Open Space.
Associate planner Leah Piccati said the site — part of the larger South Valleys Park and library area — was assigned mixed‑use suburban zoning during a prior code update even though the master plan designates it as parkland. “This is just a zoning map amendment to bring this site into conformance with the master plan,” Piccati said.
Piccati and staff noted that the map change would not exempt any future development from city standards; any future park expansions or non‑park entitlements would still be subject to applicable requirements such as residential‑adjacency standards and drainage review. Commissioners received no public testimony on the item; staff said correspondence had been entered into the record.
Commissioner Confiantini moved to recommend approval of case LDC26‑00011 and Commissioner Delviar seconded; the motion carried unanimously. Commissioner Ganfiantini earlier recused themself from this item and left the room after disclosing a potential conflict related to their employer.
