Council addresses office repairs, wiring, well freeze risk and site maintenance

Fairfield councilors reviewed several facilities and maintenance items during the meeting, including refinishing office wood floors, leaving installed wiring for cameras in place, relocating the town Internet hub and addressing recurring issues with a well that has frozen in past power outages.
Council members said the old office's wood floors are red oak and that a price for refinishing is not yet available. On camera wiring, one councilor said the wire-mold fasteners are attached with double-stick tape and removing them could pull drywall paper; the council decided to leave the cables in place for now.
The council discussed the well house and heat tape as a high-priority maintenance item. One councilor recommended calling Kale Black (well service) to inspect the power cord and heat tape, add insulation and otherwise prevent freezing. Speakers noted that if power goes out the well cannot provide water and the town should ensure the heat tape and insulation are functioning before freezing weather.
Other maintenance topics included installing exterior lights using available solar-powered fixtures, cleaning the Bird's Roadway and clearing gates and side roads of debris, and placing a permanent handicap parking sign in concrete or with a pounded post so it won’t blow over.
No formal expenditure was authorized at the meeting; councilors committed to follow up with contractors and return any required purchase approvals to the council.
