Committee recommends home-based daycare changes to comply with revised state law

The planning board committee voted to recommend proposed Amendment No. 6, which removes site-plan requirements for certain home-based day care uses and allows such uses in all zones that permit residential homes, to the planning board.
Jesse McArthur explained the changes are intended "in order to comply with newly revised state law," and committee members asked staff to adopt stronger wording in the rationale to reflect that compliance requirement. A motion to recommend Amendment No. 6 with revised rationale was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The amendment primarily amends the table of uses to permit home-based care in Lakeshore Residential and other residential zones without a special exception, streamlining permitting for family childcare providers. Staff will prepare the planning-board packet and include the updated rationale referencing the state revisions.
The planning board will consider the recommended language and schedule any public hearing required under the town’s ordinance.
