Tivoli approves shared trash collection with Red Hook, raises sticker price to $6

The Village of Tivoli Board of Trustees approved an intermunicipal agreement with the Village of Red Hook to perform shared services for collection and transportation of solid waste, including recyclables. Trustees said the move will reduce costs and standardize service, with an initial weekly rate of $682.50 to be paid by the village under the agreement.
At the same meeting trustees also raised the price of standard trash stickers sold at Village Hall from $4 to $6 and established an oversized-item sticker priced at $25 per item. Officials said existing, previously purchased tags will still be honored but new stickers purchased after the change will be $6.
Implementation details announced at the meeting: curbside garbage pickup will move from Tuesday to Monday; Red Hook will collect bottles and cans one week and paper and cardboard the next, on an alternating schedule. Village staff said they will distribute flyers and send an email to residents explaining the new schedule and rates and that the village expects some short-term confusion during the transition.
Trustees described the change as the product of a summer trial and said the intermunicipal arrangement should yield net savings despite the sticker price increase. The resolution was approved by a majority voice vote.
