Cutler Bay to install monument signs at Veterans Park after limited soil remediation plan approved

The town manager told the council on Oct. 15 that the town has received quotes for monument-style park signs for Veterans Park and expects to place two signs in areas that won’t require disturbance of soils needing remediation.
The manager said the town’s consultant negotiated a soil-management plan that reduced the amount of soil needing removal compared with Legacy Park; instead of removing the entire park’s soil, the town would remove about one-third of the park’s soil where lead and arsenic were found, with an estimated removal cost on the order of $70,000. Staff said they will proceed to bid the limited removal work.
Council members asked that the parks committee’s draft ideas for park amenities be distributed to the council; staff said they would share the draft and bring monument-sign design and preliminary park concepts back for council review, as internal design work proceeds.
