Bossier Parish School Board moves November meeting to Nov. 4, schedules administrative committee and executive session

The Bossier Parish School Board voted Thursday to move its only November regular meeting to Tuesday, Nov. 4, and approved routine agenda items and trip requests while scheduling an administrative committee meeting and an executive session that evening.
Eric Newman, president of the Bossier Parish School Board, told the board the change was proposed because several events in November would draw central office staff and some board members away from the regularly scheduled Thursday meetings. “We’re only gonna end up with one meeting in November,” Newman said, presenting the proposed date change.
The change is intended to satisfy the state requirement that the board meet at least once in November. Superintendent Roland told the board staff was planning an administrative committee meeting with a policy-review focus to precede the Nov. 4 session, and that an executive session would follow the public meeting. “Executive session will also be attached to that,” Roland said, noting several items for the closed session.
Board members moved and seconded the date-change motion and approved it by voice vote and electronic voting. The board also approved minutes from its Oct. 2 regular session, the Oct. 16 meeting agenda and a staff trip request during the Oct. 16 meeting; each item was approved by motion, second and roll-call/electronic vote with no recorded opposition.
In superintendent remarks, Roland said three board members—Mr. Jordan, Mr. Falting and Mr. Bertrand—planned to attend the Louisiana School Boards Association Fall Trailblazer event in Natchitoches. He also announced a district day-of-service set for Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon, during which central office staff will collect items for an “Airman’s Attic” initiative to support service members at Barksdale Air Force Base.
The board opened the public session with a prayer led by Miss Darby and observed several requests for ongoing prayers and remembrances, including for Willie Hogan, a crossing guard who died during the district’s fall break, and for staff and students cited by the superintendent. The meeting concluded after routine approvals and a motion to adjourn.

The board said it would post the Nov. 4 meeting change on the district website and send calendar invitations and reminders. Superintendent Roland said the administrative committee would include a policy review and that four items were planned for discussion in the executive session that evening per counsel’s correspondence.
