The board reviewed the district’s comprehensive literacy plan and approved a new agreement with Core Collaborative to support instructional strategies and professional development.
Steve (presenter) described a district-created, 89-page comprehensive literacy plan assembled to comply with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education guidance under Senate Bill 680. The presenter said the plan grew from work already underway in the district and that the document is presented for board review rather than board approval. "Step 1 was to do a needs assessment, and then step 2 became formulating your comprehensive literacy plan," the presenter said.
Separately, the board voted to approve a new agreement with Core Collaborative. District officials described the Core Collaborative work as a targeted, instructional-consulting engagement to build clarity around learning goals, strengthen classroom discussion practices and support teachers and leaders with concrete strategies. The presenter said the agreement is currently a one-time engagement with potential for follow-up consultation limited by the district’s professional development budget.
Board members connected the Core Collaborative work to existing initiatives, including Rutherford coaching, and described the agreement as a next step to deepen classroom-level instructional clarity. The motion to approve the agreement was moved and seconded; the board approved it by voice vote.
The board received the literacy plan for review and accepted the Core Collaborative agreement as presented; no further action on the literacy plan was recorded.
