Middle-school student councils report athletics, service projects and Red Ribbon Week plans

Student leaders from Anthony Middle School and Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School gave the Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 Board of Education a two-part update Oct. 15 on fall activities, athletics and community projects.
Anthony Middle School student council officers reported volleyball, cross-country and football results, academic programs and plans for Red Ribbon Week Oct. 27-31. Speakers cited team records (for example, an eighth-grade A volleyball team finished league play 6-1) and noted individual accomplishments such as a new cross-country record set by Camden Phoeb. The students also described partnerships with Kansas State University programs, including a creative community project that displayed painted pumpkins at the K-State gardens.
Eisenhower Middle School student council representatives reviewed club growth and extracurricular participation, including Spanish Club with more than 50 members, a Fellowship of Christian Athletes group that grew to roughly 40 participants, robotics, Science Olympiad and band. The presenters noted 31 athletes on cross country and described efforts to strengthen leadership and campus engagement through spirit weeks and fundraisers.
Board members thanked the students and asked a small number of clarifying questions; the presentations were ceremonial and informational and did not require board action.
