Director updates: new supervisor vehicles, facility work and upcoming drain project at Wausau transit facility

Wausau Transit staff told the commission Oct. 16 that a recent round of equipment and facility work is complete or underway: supervisors have new vehicles, a new utility truck is in service for shelter maintenance, asbestos removal and new flooring are finished in administrative areas, and painting is complete.
"The new Silverado utility truck for our guys that go around and clean the shelters and stuff, it's so much—they have that now," Ron (transit staff) said. Staff reported that work is continuing to meet a funding deadline: a drain project at the facility is scheduled to begin next week so construction can be completed before grant funds expire.
Chair McElhinney and commissioners praised the improvements and said the commission is focused on getting outstanding RFP procurements back on schedule. A commission member asked about reinstating public-comment time at the start of meetings; Chair McElhinney said that item could be placed on the next agenda. A commissioner asked when the mayor will appoint a replacement for the vacant commission seat; the mayor said the city will not keep the vacancy open indefinitely and that an appointment is expected as soon as practical.
