At its Oct. 15 meeting, the Sonoma City Council recorded the following formal outcomes:

Consent calendar — Approved (roll call): Council member Dean: Aye; Council member Gurney: Yes; Council member Low: Aye; Vice Mayor Ron Wellander: Yes. Motion carries (voice/roll call). Items on the consent calendar were routine administrative and budget items as listed on the meeting agenda.

Design‑review ordinance amendment (Agenda item 8.1) — Approved 4-0 (Council member Dean: Aye; Council member Gurney: Yes; Council member Low: Aye; Vice Mayor Ron Wellander: Yes). The ordinance amends municipal code sections to allow specified awnings, marquees and canopies that meet objective standards to be exempt from design review; atypical or building‑covering awnings remain subject to planning commission review. Council found the change exempt from CEQA.

Direction to WAC on statement of interest (Agenda item 9.1) — Approved 4-0 (Council member Dean: Aye; Council member Gurney: Yes; Council member Low: Aye; Vice Mayor Ron Wellander: Yes). Council directed the city’s WAC representative to support a joint contractors’ statement of interest addressing the Potter Valley Project decommissioning and proposed new Eel–Russian diversion facility. Staff said the statement seeks to protect reliable water supply, ensure proportional cost‑sharing and require transparency in environmental and supply evaluations.
