Tiburon diversity task force reports Diwali ferry celebration, previews spring events

The Tiburon Town Diversity Inclusion Task Force reported Oct. 15, 2025, that its recent Diwali celebration aboard the Tiburon ferry included dancing, Bollywood music and families, and members said the task force is entering a quieter period before spring events.

Task Force Chair said the Diwali event “was fantastic,” thanking organizers and the ferry operator for hosting. “I wanna thank, Tina Shaw Pekadeh, our vice chair, who's not here tonight, and Sejal … and also Lena … who did amazing work in bringing together a wonderful, wonderful celebration,” the chair said, and added that the ferry trip went under the Golden Gate Bridge.

At the start of the meeting staff member Lee called the roll. Roll call recorded Council Member Fredericks, Council Member Nick Farr, and Council Member Ryan as present; Vice Mayor Wellner and Mayor Sherry Thier were present. At-large member Noushane Latour was present; Howie Awash and Lena Godfrey were recorded as absent. Roll call also recorded that Vice Chair Tina Pike Day was absent.

Members discussed upcoming community events and noted a relatively quiet period through the winter. One task force member said the calendar typically picks up in spring with an Asian festival and Persian Nowruz, and that Juneteenth is also a recurring event on the task force’s calendar.

The task force adjourned and the meeting transitioned to the Tiburon Town Council.
