The Santa Fe Historic Districts Review Board on Sept. 23 approved a 250‑square‑foot addition to a contributing property at 549 ½ Agua Fria, finding the work will not be publicly visible and complies with local historic‑district design standards.
Staff described the house as a modest Pueblo Revival building and told the board the addition is located on a nonprimary (north) elevation and would not be visible from Agua Fria. "The applicant has provided a design set for the board members for review, and they're looking at adding a 250 square foot addition to the north side of the existing structure," staff said during the presentation.
Paul (historic preservation staff) told the board the property is listed as contributing to the Westside‑Guadalupe Historic District and that staff recommends approval under Section 14‑5.2(d) (general design standards for all historic districts) and Section 14‑5.2(i) (Westside Guadalupe design standards). The applicant, who was sworn and identified himself as Krieger, confirmed the proposed work and answered board questions about siding and stucco color.
Public testimony included a short comment from Stephanie Benonato, who said the addition appeared modest but asked for clarification about whether the addition would be visible from the east and west elevations. Staff clarified the addition extends north and can be seen from the private west elevation but is not visible from any public right of way.
Member Degnan moved to approve case 2025010945 HDRB (549 ½ Agua Fria); the board voted in favor by roll call. The motion passed and the board instructed staff to process the building permit consistent with the approved design.
