Council finalizes Main Street Commons improvements: restrooms, shade and multiuse concession space to be completed

Lake Havasu City officials said Oct. 3 that work will proceed to complete Main Street Commons with restrooms, a multiuse concession/storage building and shade structures after council direction following public input.
Background: Main Street Commons (McCulloch and Quario) originated as part of the city’s America’s Best Communities (ABC) competition win and was primarily funded by ABC prize money and grants; officials said roughly 10% of the project cost came from the city’s general fund and the remainder from grants and outside funds.
Council action and public input: staff said the original contract included several add‑alternates (restrooms, shade, pedestrian bridge). Council voted to proceed with the base project and later include restrooms and a multiuse concession space after exploring lower‑cost construction options. Staff said a storage‑container restroom originally proposed would be replaced with a block/restroom structure and that they negotiated shade structures at about one‑third the original contract price.
Facility use and operations: the multiuse building and storage will be configured to support events (concessions, point‑of‑sale, storage for event equipment). Staff and the Partnership for Economic Development (PED) plan to provide event equipment (barriers, staging items) for the site; the city will manage rentals and access. Officials acknowledged that for very large events (Winterfest, Desert Storm, Rolex & Rods) additional portable restrooms will still be used to meet peak demand.
Timing: staff estimated shade structure installation could take about 90 days; construction for the concession and restroom building is estimated at roughly five months from start to finish. City staff also described security, Wi‑Fi and lighting plans and said locks and access would be programmed to limit misuse outside event hours.
