District bands recognized; Lake Norman High School to host benefit concert for hurricane victims

Brantley said North Iredell performed in exhibition as the host and therefore did not compete for awards.
Chris Brown, band director at Lake Norman High School, said Lake Norman received a superior rating at a recent competition and that the drum majors placed second overall. He announced Lake Norman will host a benefit concert for Hurricane Helene victims at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Lake Norman High School Stadium; he said there is no required donation but that the school will accept donations on‑site and sell commemorative T‑shirts, with proceeds going to Samaritan’s Purse and other relief efforts.
Alex Sipes, director of bands at South Iredell High School, said South Iredell also earned a superior rating and introduced his drum majors. Frazier emphasized that marching band students demonstrate durable skills such as communication, collaboration and personal responsibility.
