The Livingston Parish Council on Oct. 9 adopted a resolution granting Fire District No. 1 authority to call and hold an election on April 18, 2026 to renew a 10-mil ad valorem tax for 10 years. The renewal would fund maintenance and operation of fire-protection facilities, purchase of fire trucks and firefighting equipment, and costs associated with obtaining water for fire protection, including hydrant services.
The resolution was read into the record, a motion and second were offered, and council members voted unanimously to approve the action. No members of the public spoke during the public hearing portion of the item.
The resolution authorizes the district to hold the election and sets the proposition language as required for the ballot process; it does not by itself levy the tax — that is subject to voter approval on April 18, 2026, if scheduled and conducted as read in the resolution.
