Council approves multiple routine items, appointments and continuances; several items continued

The Los Angeles City Council took a series of routine and procedural actions during its meeting, approving numerous consent and calendar items, confirming an appointment to a commission, and recording several continuances and closed-session results.

Among the actions: Carlos Alfaro's appointment to the Quality and Productivity Commission was approved (roll call recorded as 12 ayes). A community design overlay for Canoga Park (item 59) was approved 13-0; Councilmember Chick praised Planning Department staff and Jim Holmes for leading the effort.

The council approved multiple agenda blocks that were heard without public opposition: items noticed for public hearings (items 1–4) were approved after a public hearing that included support from John Bowman on behalf of the property owner for an affordable senior housing project in Sylmar (roll call 12 ayes). The council also approved numerous other grouped agenda items and continuation-agenda items by roll call, with several items continued as noted below.

Continuances and other procedural outcomes included: item 5 continued to Sept. 19; item 27 continued to Sept. 13; item 31 continued to Oct. 11; item 23b (a closed-session item) was withdrawn from the agenda and item 23d was continued one week to Sept. 13. During closed session, the City Attorney recommended settlement of item 23e and the council approved the recommendation (vote recorded as 10 ayes, 1 no for the recorded roll on that item).

The council also handled group votes on large blocks of ordinance and continuation agenda items (several tabulations recorded as 12 or 13 ayes as shown in the official roll calls during the meeting). The meeting included public comment on street cleaning and other local matters before the council adjourned in memory of several residents and staff.
