Planning commission recommends short-term rental zoning amendment to city council
Summary

The Clawson Planning Commission opened and closed a public hearing Aug. 12 on a proposed zoning ordinance amendment addressing short-term rentals and voted to recommend that the city council adopt the changes.
Planning staff said the text was the same as the draft the commission reviewed at its prior meeting and that no public comments were offered at the hearing. The commission then voted to forward the amendment to the mayor and council with a recommendation for adoption.
The roll-call vote recorded five votes in favor, one abstention. Commissioners Harrow, Kucera, Redmond, Tinland and Carpenter voted in favor; Commissioner Solomon abstained. The city attorney indicated he would present the ordinance to council and follow the usual process.
Why it matters: If adopted by the council, the amendment will change how short-term rental properties are regulated in Clawson; the measure was previously discussed and circulated to the commission for review prior to the hearing.
