The Los Angeles City Council on Sept. 12 confirmed three mayoral appointees to city commissions and recorded a short debate about geographic representation on the seven-member Board of Airport Commissioners.
Cheryl Peterson was nominated to the Board of Airport Commissioners. Several council members voiced support for Peterson’s qualifications but objected to what they described as an outsized number of airport commissioners drawn from a single council district. "This is the third appointee out of a seven-member board from Council District 11," one council member said, arguing the mayor’s appointments should better reflect the city’s geographic diversity. Another council member noted Peterson had resigned from the Fire Commission and praised her service; after debate the nomination was approved (recorded vote: 10 ayes, 1 no).
Andrew Ritter was nominated to the Commission on Children, Youth and Their Families and was unanimously confirmed (recorded vote: 10 ayes). Raymond Bishop was appointed to the Los Angeles Export Terminal and confirmed (recorded vote: 11 ayes).
The council took the usual roll calls on routine business and moved on to other agenda items after the confirmations.
