On Sept. 12 the Los Angeles City Council voted to oppose Proposition 38, a statewide school voucher initiative, by a vote of 11 in favor and 1 opposed.

The measure was before the council as a communication from the chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee recommending opposition. Council staff described the item as committee advice and clarified that an affirmative council vote would record the city’s opposition for the public record.

Council members voted on the committee’s recommendation; the clerk recorded the roll and the vote result as 11 ayes and one no. The motion to oppose was approved and is entered into the council file.
