At the Oct. 6 meeting the North Ridgeville City Board of Education received routine reports and first readings on several items and was notified of a board representative resignation.
Education staff presented three proposed field trips for first reading: an international service trip to Costa Rica (2026), an overnight competition trip for the North Ridgeville High School cheer team to Walt Disney World (Feb. 5–9, 2026) and a supervised overnight college-visit trip to Washington, D.C., and Gallaudet University for American Sign Language students (March 2026). The items were presented as first readings and will be on the Oct. 21 agenda for second reading and possible approval.
Policy items from Neola were presented as a first reading; trustees noted that one policy (numbered 8500 in the packet) related to negative meal balances needs further committee review regarding what students receive when accounts are negative. The policy committee was asked to revisit that item before final approval.
The board was presented with a list of gifts and donations reported for acceptance: an anonymous $5,000 donation to support district AI subscriptions, several gift-card donations totaling $360 for staff appreciation from the North Ridgeville Non-Teaching Education Association and the Rotary Club, a $2,000 donation from VFW Post 9871 for prizes, $250 donations from IWI Incorporated and Planet Fitness for the Monster Dash, $207.87 from Liberty PTO, and multiple Athletic Booster donations totaling $15,258 for athletics, senior banners and related items. The gifts were reported in the communications section; the record states the board was asked to accept them as listed.
Human-resources items were presented as a first reading and include certified and support-staff appointments, substitute contracts, supplemental contracts, retirements and resignations; individual names and positions were included in the meeting packet and second-reading consideration is scheduled for Oct. 21.
Board members were also notified that Joanna Tamira submitted her resignation as the board's JBS representative; trustees discussed planning for a replacement and expect to nominate and appoint a new JVS/JBS representative at the next meeting. The district noted the JVS board meets one Thursday a month, and upcoming meetings were listed for Oct. 16, Nov. 20 and Dec. 11.
Late in the meeting the board voted to go into executive session to discuss appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of public employees and matters related to negotiations of public employees; the motion was moved by Mister Grigsby and seconded by Miss Saxon. The board's roll-call vote was recorded as unanimous and the record states no action will follow the executive session.
