Golf committee outlines goals, policy review and plans course tours during overseeding

Committee leadership reiterated the golf committee’s advisory role to the governing board and set a schedule for policy review and course tours.

Chair Rudy Grom opened the governance items on Sept. 11 by summarizing the committee’s charge, saying the group acts “in an advisory role” between members and the board and will review operating and capital budgets as next year’s budgets are prepared. He asked committee members to review the nine golf policies posted on the governing-board hub and send suggested changes prior to the Dec. 1 target for a committee recommendation.

On tours, environmental services staff recommended a three-course tour—Grandview, Echo Mesa and Stardust—so members can view the new irrigation work, desert landscaping and a newly installed fairway area. Todd Patty suggested scheduling tours toward the tail end of overseeding so members can see grow-in conditions and newly installed features; the group proposed a two-hour window, starting about noon or 1 p.m., and staff said they would bring tentative dates to the October meeting.

Director Groen asked that the tours include pro-shop patios, restrooms and other facility items so the committee can consider prioritizing repairs such as Pebblebrook restroom and patio work noted in public comment. The committee agreed that staff (including Pat O’Hara and Todd Patty) will accompany the tours and bring facility-condition recommendations back to the committee.

Grom closed the meeting with reminders about the new governing-board hub, the privacy of committee rosters, and the next committee meeting set for Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m. in the lecture hall.
