Livonia Public Library unveils new library card designs; digital and in-person sign-up available

The Livonia Public Library announced that the winning designs from its 2025 library card design contest are now available at both library branches and can be selected when patrons sign up or renew their cards, Kira, host of Library Bites at the Livonia Public Library, said.

The new cards are available immediately and can be obtained either online or in person. "Say hello to our new lineup of library cards. We're thrilled to announce that the winning designs from the 2025 library card design contest are officially available at both branches of the library," Kira said on the Library Bites episode.

Library officials said patrons can apply online by completing a short form on the library website; the system verifies information and then sends a digital card to the applicant's email. According to Kira, a digital card grants access to the library's online resources.

For a physical card, patrons should visit any Livonia Public Library location with proof of identification and proof of Livonia residency. "Stop by any of the Livonia Public Library locations with proof of ID and Livonia residency. It's as easy as 1, 2, read," Kira said.

The library card provides borrowing privileges for books, movies and games; access to downloadable ebooks and audiobooks; subscriptions to newspapers and research databases; museum pass reservations; and online classes, the episode said. The library reiterated that library cards are free for Livonia residents.

The announcement appeared on Library Bites, the library's short-format information episode; Kira closed the segment by inviting listeners to leave questions in the episode comments or visit a branch for assistance. "Leave them in the comments or come on in. We're always happy to help," Kira said.
