The Kenosha Police and Fire Commission on Sept. 16 approved the minutes of its Aug. 19 regular meeting, received and filed the August police and fire department reports and accepted the retirement of Detective Brent Richter.
Chief Patton praised Detective Richter’s long service, saying Richter “really helped bridge the gap of continuing prosecution all the way through.” The commission agreed to defer presentation of a lifesaving award for Police Officer Alex Van Vogelen until the October meeting.
The commission voted by voice for routine items. President Helen Schumacher called for the motions; members voiced “aye” on the procedural approvals. Commissioners offered brief remarks recognizing Richter’s service. Commissioner Frederick Dupree said, “Congratulations on a long career, Mister Richter,” and Commissioner Giancaro Ruffalo offered similar good wishes.
Chief Patton also reported that Alderperson Holly Kangas resigned the previous evening “due to some health concerns,” and he thanked her for eight years of support for the department. The commission extended well-wishes to Kangas and to Detective Richter on his retirement.
Deputy Fire Chief Scott Krueger was congratulated after commissioners noted his recent win at the LaborFest chili cook-off.
The commission’s next meeting will include the deferred lifesaving award presentation and routine follow-up items.
