A city councilor announced that a Tulsa Expungement Expo will be held Nov. 1 at the 306 North Event Center and asked commissioners to promote preregistration and community outreach.
Organizers said volunteer attorneys and support organizations will be on-site to help attendees determine whether they are eligible to seek expungement under state law and to offer referrals for employment and housing support. The councilor emphasized that expungement eligibility depends on the county where the offense occurred and that Tulsa County offenses can be handled at this event.
Officials said the event has been an important resource: one organizer said earlier commission-supported expos have been able to expunge “over 500” records. The expo will also include support services — voter registration, financial empowerment and municipal-court dockets to clear certain municipal warrants when possible.
Organizers urged preregistration to speed service and highlighted partnerships with local nonprofits and judges who have arranged special dockets to help clear municipal warrants and reduce fines where appropriate. The councilor asked commissioners to distribute flyers and to encourage churches and community partners to share the information.
