Commission approves support resolution for Freedmen and adopts previous meeting minutes

The Greater Tulsa Area African American Affairs Commission on Oct. 17 voted to adopt a resolution expressing support for Freedmen of the tribes and also approved the commission’s Sept. 19, 2025 meeting minutes.

A commissioner moved to “support the resolution” regarding Freedmen; the motion was seconded and commissioners voted “aye” with none opposed. The transcript records the motion as carried.

Earlier in the meeting, a motion to approve the commission meeting minutes from Sept. 19, 2025 was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. Several commissioners voiced “aye” and the chair declared the minutes approved.

The commission discussed that a formal resolution would be drafted by a commissioner and circulated to members; speakers clarified that a city commission resolution is a statement of support and does not by itself alter sovereign tribal policy but can express municipal solidarity and advocacy.
