City staff told the Shreveport City Council on Aug. 26 that the administration intends to apply for $20 million through the State Clean Water Revolving Loan Fund for sewer projects across the city.
City staff member Dart described the loan application as a low-interest, long-term financing option “to do mostly sewer work,” and listed lift stations included in the application such as Wallace Lift Station, Lagarde and Havana Street, along with several gravity-sewer projects.
Staff said the city has used the revolving-loan program before and that it is a cost-effective way to fund sewer rehabilitation without paying higher commercial interest rates. The resolution authorizing the mayor to execute the application was introduced; staff said final approval depends on loan underwriting and subsequent council action.
No vote was taken on Aug. 26; the resolution was introduced for further readings and formal adoption once the application is complete.
