The Shreveport City Council on Aug. 19 adopted a resolution recognizing Cameron Hooks, a land planner and executive assistant with the Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC), and wishing her success as she prepares to begin a two-year Peace Corps assignment in Lesotho on Sept. 20, 2025.
The resolution states Hooks began with the city through the mayor’s summer internship program in May 2023, later accepting a full-time role with MPC. Hooks spoke at the meeting, saying, "It's truly been an honor working here for the city," and that the MPC staff "really taught me a lot." Councilman Green moved the resolution; Councilwoman Bowman seconded it, and the clerk recorded the vote as passing 6-0.
Mister Clark (MPC) praised Hooks’ service and said the MPC is proud of her selection, adding, "We're very proud. This is quite an honor." Family members in the chamber also offered congratulations; Hooks’ mother said the city helped "grow her up" since she joined at age 22.
The resolution notes Hooks will serve in the education sector during her two-year assignment starting Sept. 20, 2025.
