The Huron City Commission on Monday approved the evening's consent agenda and a series of departmental and planning items, including a progress payment on a sewer mainlining contract, two plats and routine contracts for benefits and training.
Commissioners voted to approve pay request number 12 for bid 2024-08 (sewer mainlining) to HK Solutions Group for $66,149.28. City staff described the payment as a progress payment covering pipe repairs, sewer lining and surface grouting.
The commission also approved rebidding the city’s propane fuel supply after staff reported the original bid was not posted correctly and produced a single bidder.
On licensing and property matters, the commission approved a transfer of a package off-sale alcoholic beverage license from C and K of Huron (doing business as Holiday Liquor) to Carlson's Northside Service Inc., following a successful inspection and no public comments. The commission approved a quitclaim deed requested by GHDC to substitute a previously transferred lot after a gas-line issue made the original parcel unbuildable; GHDC representative Ted Hader was present.
Planning approvals included final plat approval for Joe and Debbie Snyder to split a 3.91-acre parcel into two lots (Snyder's Lot 1 and 2), and a replat to move lot lines for properties related to Veil and Marty Moulding. Planning staff said the joint planning commission recommended approval of those plats and that no opposition had been received.
The commission granted a home-occupation permit to Dennis Bennett, 701 Colorado Southwest, to operate a small-engine repair business with the condition that there be no outside storage of vehicles, parts or equipment.
On ordinances, the commission gave second reading and approval to an ordinance described in the packet as "22 76 23 - 4 18" clarifying yard-setback language in the zoning code. Planning staff said the change was intended to simplify and clarify previous ordinance language.
Departmental items approved included continuation of employee coverage with Avera Health, Delta Dental and Principal VSP vision, with Brenda Arteman of First Stop Insurance Agency continuing as the city's agent. The commission also authorized a training agreement with Mitchell Technical College to continue a leadership academy for first- and second-line managers; staff said the training is funded in the 2026 budget and will offer college credit.
