Planning and Zoning commission reviews year of zoning work, urges more public input

Cottonberg told council the commission completed about 12 projects in the past 12 months. She reviewed topics the commission addressed, including residential accessory structures, accessory dwelling units, townhome dimensional regulations, home-occupation licensing, major modification and site plan reviews for commercial projects (including a Dunkin' and a car wash), and both small- and large-scale comprehensive-plan amendments for areas such as Day Drive and a development called Treasure Bay.
Cottonberg said the commission is advisory to council and relies on staff-provided materials. She warned that planning errors are hard to fix later and invited residents to attend meetings and participate when proposed changes affect neighborhoods.
Several council members thanked Cottonberg and commission members for their volunteer service and for thoroughly vetting items before they reach council. Council also moved to reappoint two incumbents to the construction board during consent items.
The presentation contained no formal action items beyond routine appointments; council expressed appreciation and no further votes were required.
