PTO reports $22,221.77 from Apex Fun Run; majority of donations came from outside district

Joe Lynch, representing the Parksburg Borough PTO, told the board during visitors comments that the PTO's Apex Fun Run raised $22,221.77 this year and described how the funds will be used.
"All total was $22,221.77, which goes right back to the schools," Lynch said. He reported that the Primary Learning Center (PLC) raised $13,932 (about 16,000 laps) and the Octorara Intermediate School raised $8,299.37 (about 17,000 laps). Lynch said roughly 23% of PLC donations and 34% of OIS donations came from parents; the remainder came from donors outside the district across multiple states. The PTO plans to distribute $1,500 per grade level for classroom needs, field trips and transportation assistance.
Lynch also explained the vendor split for the Apex program: the vendor keeps 50% of funds raised in many cases unless higher benchmarks are met; the PTO fell just short of the threshold where the vendor's percentage would drop. The PTO said using a vendor this year reduced volunteer workload and the vendor provided experiential elements and prizes for students.

The PTO's fall family fun fest is scheduled for Nov. 14 at the Primary Learning Center from 5–8 p.m., and the PTO emphasized its efforts to run family events at minimal or no cost to families.
