The board noted the event is not mandatory for members but encouraged broad participation; members discussed weather postponement procedures and asked staff to resend the event flyer to those who need it.
On the parade, members discussed a tropical theme, music (including a suggestion to use Jimmy Buffett tracks), lighting and use of plants from the city’s partner nursery A Tree For Me. The parade date is Dec. 6; the board discussed handing out candy to children and seed packets to adults from the float and agreed handing items directly to attendees reduced litter compared with tossing items. Members debated candy selection and wrapper requirements; one member asked that candy have no artificial colors and be in sealed wrappers. The board also discussed seed‑packet workdays to prepare for distribution and considered printing recycled shopping bags with the Sustainable Sebastian logo to hand out before the parade so residents have a place to carry items.
The board voted by voice consensus to have staff obtain pricing for reusable bags with the Sustainable Sebastian logo and to return the estimate for future action. Members also discussed communications logistics (walkie‑talkies for float crew), portable power (small generator or solar option) and volunteer positioning on the float (people on both sides to hand items and runie‑backs if needed). No formal budget appropriation was made at the meeting.
