The Daytona Beach City Commission on Oct. 1 introduced two ordinances for public hearing and further consideration.
Human Resources presented an ordinance to revise outside-detail rates charged for police officers, firefighters and traffic engineers who provide services to private vendors and other outside entities. The ordinance would establish increased hourly rates based on the type of service and dates of service; city staff set a public hearing on Oct. 15 for final consideration.
The commission also introduced a charter amendment affecting the Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement System (subpart D of the city charter). The proposed ordinance would eliminate a reduction to the member contribution once a member reaches a maximum monthly pension benefit cap of $5,500 and would allow capped members a one-time election either to remain at a reduced contribution rate and forego future recalculations or to remain in the city’s 401(a) plan and forego future recalculations. The public hearing on the retirement ordinance is also set for Oct. 15.
Commissioners did not take final action at the meeting; both measures were advanced to public hearing dates so the commission can receive additional public comment and act at second reading.
