The Sunrise City Commission on Aug. 12, 2025 took multiple routine legislative and administrative actions, voting unanimously (3-0) on several first readings and other agenda matters. Key items approved or advanced:
- Plan unit development / affordable housing floor-area amendment (Agenda item 12a): The commission held a public hearing and approved, on first reading, an ordinance amending Chapter 16 (Land Development Code) to authorize requests for reduced minimum floor area for certain affordable-housing projects. Vote: 3-0 (Assistant Deputy Mayor Jacqueline Guzman moved; Commissioner Latoya Clark seconded).
- FY 2024–25 budget amendment (Agenda item 12b): The commission approved first reading of an ordinance amending the general fund for FY24–25 (budget ordinance number cited in staff report). Vote: 3-0.
- Amendment to ordinance 7-15-x (personnel/human resources item) (Agenda item 12c): The commission advanced an ordinance as amended on first reading (staff: Jamie Ketchup, director of human resources). Vote: 3-0.
- Uniform signage plan amendment — Sawgrass Mills Mall (Agenda item 12d): The commission approved adoption of the amended uniform signage plan for Sawgrass Mills Mall by first reading. Vote: 3-0.
- Appointment to Sustainability Advisory Board (Agenda item 7a): The commission appointed Senisa Osborne as an ex officio high-school student member through June 30, 2026. Motion by Commissioner Guzman; second by Commissioner Clark; vote 3-0.
- Designation of charities and city events (Agenda item 17f): The commission updated its list of approved charity organizations and city events for purposes of the county’s elected-official code of ethics (list in the staff report). Vote: 3-0.
Most of the items were heard with limited public comment. Staff presenters for the items included City Manager Mark Lebowski; Shannon Lay, director of community development; Susan Neighbors, director of finance and administrative services; and Jamie Ketchup, director of human resources. The first-read ordinances will return for final readings or further action where required by local code.
