Conroe council unanimously approves release of Jones Lang LaSalle valuation on hotel‑convention center

The City of Conroe City Council and the Conroe Local Government Corporation voted unanimously to release a Jones Lang LaSalle valuation report on the proposed hotel and convention center following an executive session, officials said.

The joint special meeting at Conroe City Hall began at 9:30 a.m. and recessed into executive session under Texas Government Code §551.071 for private consultation with the city attorney about the hotel‑convention center project and related governing documents. The council and CLGC reconvened their open meeting at 10:58 a.m., and council members moved to publish the valuation report subject to stakeholder notification.

Councilman Harrell moved to ‘‘release to the public the Jones Lang LaSalle valuation report for transparency reasons as discussed in executive session and subject to notification of the stakeholders,’’ and the motion was seconded (the record does not name the second). During brief discussion, Harrell said, “I think it's imperative that Thursday all the citizens hear what we heard back there in the back and we make this as transparent as possible because they know they need to know exactly what we heard behind closed doors.”

Councilwoman Porter and Mayor Pro Tem Wood both expressed support for the release. Porter said she supported Harrell’s remarks and noted the report “will also be discussed by a third party agnostic group,” adding that ‘‘citizens will be hearing the truth from a third party, not particular people or individuals with any kind of motives.’’ Wood reiterated that the presentation should be objective, saying ‘‘it is very important to reiterate that this is an objective third party.’’

All members present voted in favor; the mayor declared the motion carried. The council adjourned the special meeting shortly after the vote, at about 11:00 a.m.

The action directs staff to make the Jones Lang LaSalle valuation available to the public and to notify stakeholders prior to or contemporaneous with release.
