The Rockwall City Council on Oct. 20 authorized the city manager to finalize the acquisition of a community building and adjoining park in the Lake Rockwell Estates subdivision that Lake Pointe Church is donating to the city.
Council action came immediately after the meeting's executive session. Mayor Pro Temmuller made the motion to authorize the city manager to finalize the acquisition, and Councilmember Lewis seconded it; the measure passed unanimously.
City officials said the building and park will provide space for events for local residents and the broader community. "This is a great donation by Lake Pointe Church," Mayor Tim McCallum said after the vote, thanking the church and noting city officials had visited the site. Councilmembers praised the congregation's ongoing community work and the donation's potential to benefit residents in that area.
The council did not detail purchase price or closing timetable during the public session. The motion authorizes the city manager to complete the necessary steps to accept the donation; officials said the property will be used for community events and programming for Lake Rockwell Estates residents.
The action followed an executive-session discussion recorded on the agenda as relating to real property and legal advice. No additional public discussion or vote details were provided in open session beyond the movers, second, and unanimous tally. The council also publicly thanked Lake Pointe Church for the donation.
