Public works and utilities staff reviewed multiple consent items at the Oct. 20 staff agenda review that will be on the commission consent agenda.
Hypochlorite: staff described an annual purchase of hypochlorite solution used at the water treatment plant and showed the budgeted amount as $440,000. Mustafa (presenting utilities items) said the price increase was within the expected range and that the purchase is a piggyback off Charlotte County, Fla., contract.
Pumps: Mustafa described a sole‑source vendor that supplies ABS pumps and parts for lift stations. He said 65 of the city’s 86 lift stations use this specific pump brand and configuration; the agenda included a budget of $160,000 to purchase parts as needed for emergency repairs. Mustafa said a typical pump or major component averages $25,000–$30,000, so the budget would cover roughly several pumps or assorted components depending on needs.
Loader purchase: staff presented a planned purchase of a heavy loader to replace frequent rentals used for landscape and stormwater projects. The procurement was described as a piggyback off a City of Tallahassee contract with a price not to exceed $248,000. Staff said analysis of rental costs over prior years showed it would be more cost‑effective to own the equipment.
Staff noted one additional replacement equipment item that was listed on the original agenda did not appear on the published consent list due to an agenda section not being selected during editing; staff said they would republish the agenda to reflect any corrections before Wednesday’s meeting.
Why it matters: the items are routine public‑works purchases for operations and emergency response; the pumps and loader relate to wastewater lift stations, stormwater maintenance and canal cleanup.
