Lake County names Clean and Green art contest winners from 714 entries

Lake County on April 15 announced the winners of its annual Clean and Green art contest, selecting work from 714 student entries across 8 elementary schools, 7 middle schools and 7 high schools.
Patrick Stitz, public service coordinator for the Lake County Department of Utilities, said the contest requires original artwork with a recycling or anti-littering theme and the words “Lake County.” Stitz said the contest, run with the county’s Solid Waste Management District and Ohio State University Extension in Lake County, is intended to promote recycling and anti-littering messages during the county’s Clean and Green period, which runs April 22 through May 31.
The winners announced were Gabriel Haki, a fifth grader at the School of Innovation (elementary division); Piper Helmick, an eighth grader from Wickliffe Upper School (middle school division and overall winner); and Ava Verbon, a ninth grader at Lake Catholic High School (high school division). Stitz said the winning pieces will be displayed on the commissioners’ wall for one year and that certificates and awards were presented to the students in the meeting.
Commissioners congratulated the students and staff who participated. Stitz noted the contest has run for more than 25 years and thanked the commissioners for judging this year’s entries.
