Commissioners authorize agreement allowing Ashtabula County to provide water to area across river from Lake County

The Lake County Board of Commissioners approved a water supply and infrastructure agreement authorizing Ashtabula County to provide water service to an area on the Lake County side of the river, including parcels along South River Road where wineries and some residents sought public water service.
“Agrreement that we're entering into with Ashtabula County, essentially allowing them to provide water in Lake County,” said Aaron, a Lake County Department of Utilities staff member, explaining that an intergovernmental agreement is required for an entity to provide water outside its jurisdiction. He said discussions began several years ago in Ashtabula County about extending a water line from State Route 534 west along River Road to serve wineries and nearby property owners. Aaron said Lake County has no water line near that location and that the arrangement allows Ashtabula County to supply water “until such time that Lake County would be able to do that.”
Commissioner Beveridge said the arrangement should benefit local wineries. “Even though our water is better than Ashtabula County's, I think it's gonna help the wineries,” Beveridge said.
The board voted to authorize execution of the agreement; the motion carried with the three commissioners present recorded as voting in favor. The resolution record did not specify a start date for service or the precise parcels to be served; the transcript shows staff described the affected corridor as west along River Road from 534 and identified wineries and “other residents” on the Lake County side as potential participants.
The resolution directs the Department of Utilities to execute the agreement and coordinate implementation details with Ashtabula County and affected residents.
