Job and Family Services seeks donations for Back‑to‑School Bash, aims for 2,000 backpacks

Suzanne, a representative of the Lake County Department of Job and Family Services, told commissioners the department and the Family and Children First Council are organizing the annual Back‑to‑School Bash. The event is scheduled for Aug. 2 at Harvey High School in Painesville, and organizers are aiming to distribute 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies.
Suzanne said the Salvation Army and United Way of Lake County are partnering on supply and clothing collection. Individuals can sponsor a filled backpack for $35. The United Way of Lake County is accepting clothing donations Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with weekend drop‑offs available by appointment.
Organizers emphasized a need for new socks and underwear for children who attend. Suzanne said the clothing distribution is heavily used at the event and urged community members and organizations to contribute. She also told the board that she would provide updates to commissioners and the public if and when concrete changes occur to Medicaid or SNAP programs; she described those federal programs’ status as "very fluid" and said she would present formal information to the board when available.
Suzanne credited local partners for the event’s planning and encouraged community support and donations.
