County Administrator Jason Boyd told the Lake County Board of Commissioners that construction of the Public Safety Center is progressing, with elevator shafts and multiple stairwells poured and steel installation expected within one to two weeks.
"Stairwell 1 ... was topped off two weeks ago. The masons are now working on a second similar stairwell," Jason Boyd said, describing recent concrete work. He added that workers appear to be finishing Level 0 and that the front facade work is expected to be completed this week or early next week.
Boyd also reported that the juvenile court parking-lot work was moved forward and completed late last week, providing parking for staff and the public. "It looks like we have ample parking for that operation moving forward," he said.
Separately, Boyd provided an update on Vision 2050, the county's comprehensive-plan process. He said the county's consultant has held stakeholder meetings and one-on-one interviews and will have a booth at the Willoughby Arts Fest and at a Madison Village concert in the park to gather public input. He directed residents to lakecountyohio.gov and the comprehensive plan tab for a survey link.
A member of the public, Frank Lamberto of 104 East Erie Street, praised the contractor Gilbane and the county's owner representative Ellis Katz for project oversight and coordination, calling the contractor "exceptional in terms of its information" and commending the construction management team.
Other commissioners and meeting participants offered praise for staff and contractors during remarks; that commentary was recorded in the meeting minutes but not presented as formal findings or directives.
No formal actions were taken on construction management or Vision 2050 during this portion of the meeting; the administrator's report was informational.
The board noted the next regular commissioners meeting is Thursday, July 17, at 10 a.m., followed by a public workshop at 10:30 a.m.
