Lake County commissioners voted on a package of routine contracts, infrastructure plan approvals, grants and appointments at their April 17 meeting, approving contracts and purchase orders and reappointing members to the county transit board.
The approvals included contracts for water and wastewater chemicals for the Department of Utilities, plans and cost estimates for sanitary sewers and a water line in two subdivisions, a community development block grant (CDBG) funding agreement with Painesville Township to acquire property on Normandy Drive, and multiple personnel appointments to the county transit board.
Why it matters: the actions authorize county spending, enable local infrastructure work and allocate federal CDBG funds at the local level. Taken together, the approved items clear the way for construction and small capital and operating expenditures across county departments.
Most prominent items approved included: - Authorization of contracts for various water and wastewater chemicals for the Lake County Department of Utilities (motion carried unanimously). - Approval of plans, specifications and estimates of cost of $278,522.20 for sanitary sewers, Echo Hill Manor Subdivision, Mentor (job no. 23-58) (motion carried unanimously). - Approval of plans, specifications and estimates of cost of $163,861.50 for a water line, Old School Village subdivision, Wickliffe (job no. 25-07) (motion carried unanimously). - Approval of county Department of Job and Family Services vouchers dated April 25, 2025, in the amount of $572,109.48 (motion carried unanimously). - Approval of an agreement between the Lake County Board of Commissioners and Painesville Township for Fiscal Year 2024 CDBG funds to permit the township to purchase land on Normandy Drive for open space or future storm-sewer connection (motion carried unanimously). - Appointment of Diane Dimitro to the Laketran Board of Trustees for a three-year term expiring May 15, 2028 (motion carried unanimously). - Reappointment of Donna P. McNamee to the Laketran Board of Trustees for a three-year term expiring May 15, 2028 (motion carried unanimously). - Reappointment of Michael Gishmo to the Laketran Board of Trustees for a three-year term expiring May 15, 2028 (motion carried unanimously). - Approval of payment of bills as listed on the commissioners’ approval journal in the amount of $2,078,811.77 (motion carried unanimously). - Approval of payment to CT Consultants Inc. in the amount of $22,510.47 (motion carried; one abstention recorded). - Approval of purchase orders as listed on the purchase order approval journal in the amount of $1,439,655.53 (motion carried unanimously). - Resolutions increasing appropriations and transferring cash within non-general fund accounts (motions carried unanimously).
Several motions were moved and seconded without extended debate. Ria Benton of the Fair Housing Resource Center spoke on a separate proclamation earlier in the meeting and returned to explain the CDBG agreement with Painesville Township; she said the township may retain the parcel as open space or incorporate it into a storm-sewer project.
Votes at a glance (recorded roll calls): Commissioners voted officially by name on the record. Most items passed with those recorded as voting “Aye”: Commissioner Beveridge, Commissioner Plecnik and Commissioner Rekovich. The payment to CT Consultants recorded one abstention during the roll call.
The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Thursday, April 24, at 10 a.m.
