Fire department representatives announced plans for a night training drill using a building scheduled for demolition that will include simulated smoke, search-and-rescue and ladder operations.
Speaker 1, a fire department representative, said crews would simulate conditions on the building’s flat roof and inside a suite: "Flat roof of the bar of it. We've got smoke and fire showing on a Suite 100." Speaker 2, a fire department representative, described the scope of the exercises: "We're gonna be doing some search and rescue with some smoke, some fake smoke conditions, as well as some roof operations with our ladder company. Working on some vertical ventilation as well as some firefighter survival skills."
The speakers said the exercise will be a night drill involving the Fountain Hills Fire Department and Fort McDowell Fire and that the departments have acquired the building that is scheduled for demolition. Speaker 2 added that the departments will use smoke machines and a simulated victim to replicate low-visibility rescue conditions: "We do have smoke machines to to simulate smoke and very poor visibility of fake victim in there that we're gonna work on rescuing."
Both representatives framed the event as a rare but valuable training opportunity aimed at strengthening mutual-aid coordination and on-scene efficiency. "It's a very rare, opportunity, but it is a it is a great opportunity," Speaker 2 said, later adding, "The the more we train on this stuff and the harder we work, the better the outcome's gonna be."
No date, start time or permitting details were provided in the remarks. The announcement focused on the planned training objectives, use of simulated smoke and interagency cooperation; speakers did not specify participant counts, funding, or whether the exercise requires any additional approvals.
